Latest Figures on UK Religious Affiliation

The Daily Mail today has a report about the latest figures on religious affiliation in the UK released as part of the Labour Force Survey which is carried out annually by the Office of National Statistics. The ONS survey appears to be a fairly reliable one as it is said to have surveyed 50,000 people. In any case, it seems to provide the most detailed look at religious affiliation in the UK at least until the official 2011 Census figures are released.

    From 336,000 to 340,000 is a DROP of -1.2%? Something doesn’t add up.

  2. Well spotted – that should be a 1.2% increase in the Sikh population. I’d wager that the error was made by the Daily Mail hacks rather than the Labour Force Survey!

      No need to suppose the ‘2000 jews’ emigrated or changed religion or even ‘disappeared’: in a survey like this a variation of 1% or 2000 is statistically insignificant. There were about 270000 jews in 2004; there were about 270000 jews in 2010.
