Ahdaf Soueif and Robert Fisk on the Israeli killing of aid workers

The Guardian today carries a comment piece by the Arab writer Ahdaf Soueif about Israel’s killing of volunteer aid workers on the flotilla bound for Gaza.

The Independent carries a piece by its veteran reporter Robert Fisk entitled ‘Western leaders are too cowardly to help save lives.’

Fisk asks:

‘Where were our politicians yesterday? … Where was Mr Cameron? Where was Mr Clegg? For it is a fact, is it not, that had Europeans (and yes, the Turks are Europeans, are they not?) been gunned down by any other Middle Eastern army (which the Israeli army is, is it not?) there would have been waves of outrage.’

Indeed. Do read both articles in full..

No comment pieces have appeared in the Times or the Daily Telegraph, however.
